Settings for ADSL modems with Rabbit

If you got your modem from Rabbit Net then DON'T TOUCH THE SETTINGS!! We have set it up for you. There is nothing that will make it work "better". You will only stop it from working.

With ADSL, logging on is controled by the modem, not the computer. You have to set up the correct Rabbit username and password in the modem settings and the username has a very specific format. Do not try and setup up broadband login in the computer's settings - it is wrong and you may stop your connection from working.

When you are setting up a "non Rabbit" modem, the settings below are typical of what you need to put in. Most modems use an IP address (4 numbers separated by full stops) or a setup program on a disk. If you use an IP address you need to put the modem's IP in the address bar at the top of your web browser. Some modems require a username and password to enter the modem. Typically it is "admin" and "admin" but your modem manual will tell you exactly. Once in, put in the following settings when asked. Leave everything else at their default values, don't touch them.

Username: [your Rabbit username]@portal.rabbit.com.au [Used in this format ONLY in ADSL modems - nowhere else.]

Password: [your normal Rabbit password]

Protocol: PPPoE

VPI: 8

VCI: 35

Compresson: LLC
